Traffic Shift As MD 4@Suitland Parkway Interchange Enters Next Phase of Construction
(August 11, 2026) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will implement a new traffic pattern starting August 17 as it advances the MD 4 (Pennsylvania Avenue) at Suitland Parkway Interchange project in Prince George’s County to its next construction phase. Motorists must stay alert and diligent when traveling through the project’s work zone. The changes will address safety concerns, increase roadway capacity to meet demand and provide room for future traffic growth.
Crews will begin installing traffic infrastructure, including electronic and directional signage during a temporary weekend closure of access to Suitland Parkway from northbound MD 4 on August 14-16 starting at 7 p.m., weather permitting. The new traffic pattern is expected to be open the morning of August 17 and will remain in place for approximately two years while construction continues.
The new traffic pattern will consist of two lanes in both directions while maintaining dual left-turn lanes on northbound MD 4 to Suitland Parkway. All motorists expecting to travel through the project area are encouraged to plan for additional travel time.
“The MD 4 Suitland Interchange project is a complex but critical infrastructure investment in Prince George’s County that will support the growing region for decades to come,” said State Highway Administrator Will Pines. “While we continue to work through the next phase of construction, we ask that motorists familiarize themselves with the new traffic pattern to keep themselves, other motorists and our workers safe.”
